Flieshman Truth Session // Portland Family Photographers

When I got an email from a mom asking for a gift certificate for a Truth Session for her daughter I was so excited. Someone was asking for a truth session for christmas! What I was doing was on someone’s wish list. That felt good, but it also really made me realize what I was doing. I impacting lives, and these weren’t just photos. These were peoples truths.

After Christmas when I started emailing with Amy I knew this was going to be a good one. She heard from us from a dear friend of mine, and I knew she was going to a perfect fit. She has a 1 year old, and her husband and her own and run a business. She is also a working mother, so we had a lot in common. When I pulled up to their house, I looked around. They had a VW bus in the driveway and a yellow door. It was heaven. I walked in and they were feeding Henry, their little boy a piece of toast with avocado. Something she said she did everyday.

We didn’t do anything special, we did exactly what they would do that afternoon. It was 3 hours of wonderful. When I look at their photos, I see their truth. I see what they do on an everyday basis. Nothing changed in their lives for the photos. They are valuing their truth in all that it is. They let Henry sit right in a puddle, they let him go down a wet slide, they gave him his bath, and put him to bed.

When I delivered their book, I got to bring Lincoln and hang out for a bit. I was sitting on the floor playing with Lincoln and Henry, when Amy decided she wanted to look at the book. Henry was interested, and so he went and looked at his pictures in his moms lap. In that moment,  I knew what I was doing was right. He was looking as his beauty, and his truth. I imaged him 20 years down the road looking at this book, and being grateful to see his everyday life in print. Thankful his parents made the investment, and realize the grandness of it all.
